Re: Smoker's Beware

My point exactly. When we keep giving up the right to tax to the government, we the citizens are responsible to check if they are spending it the right way. And past history shows they will not. And if they say it is so bad why do they not just outlaw it today? Answer, because they want to stand in front of a camera and say they are against tobacco, but in fact they love it because it is another source of revenue for them to spend. The real power of a politiican is the money they control. If you  can right a bill to spend money in a way that it ends up in the "right" hands, you gain power. Raising taxes on alcohol and tobacco are easy targets because they are considered "sin" taxes. But it is a tax all the same. And I have complete faith the good politicians will put that money aside to be used soley for smokers health programs, just like the tobacco settlement money was supposed to be used ( it was not supposed to be for past expenses, but fututre ones, and most states like NJ took out loans against the 30 year pay out and have spent it all in less than 10 yrs in the regular budget) for what theses new taxes are being described. Just like social security was to be in a trust fund, invested and gaining interest for the retirees benifit. And the the brilliant politicians of the day decided there was so much money you couldn't possibly use it all and began spending it on everthing under the sun. And look at it now.

Please for everyones sake, dont not ever , ever, just allow any governmnet body just start to tax anything for a reason they tell you about. Read the bill that contains it and read the fine print and follow the money. It will open your eyes and most likly make you cry. Nothing is sacred to these supposed learned people. They will say what they think they mean to say, but as the old saying goes, actions speak much louder than words. Read the bill and look up past actions of the person who wrote the bill before you believe even the "no brainer" tax bill.
