A bigger pipe doesn't help any in gaming. Latency, or what you would call "lag" in gaming, is most important. Latency is the time it takes a packet to get to the server and back. It's a product of the network architecture and overall routing through the Internet. So while a different provider (cable/dsl/etc.) may be better than another, different bandwidth options on the same provider probably won't differ at all. Do a ping on the lowest bandwidth available and the average latency probably is exactly the same as the highest on that same provider.
It's easy to define what you're willing to fight for; but what are you willing to stand for without fighting? What are you willing to lay down your life for?
