Re: Gi broadband in florida

GI Broadband is an employee based outfit but they really want subs.  They pass all of the risks, costs, and liabilities of doing business off to the employee.  Expect to be payroll deducted and expect the rates to be less than Jaguar and Cable Connections.

Jaguar will only touch you if you are incorporate but they don't actually want subs, only incorporated independents because of the increased protection from liability.  Once you are incorporated you become an employee of your company.  Ask them how any other employees you might want to hire can get tech numbers.  They will tell you that you can't do that because they have been there and done that.  Enjoy the increased costs by paying the extra costs of incorporation, annual renewal, higher insurance premiums, and state corporate tax for nothing.

Cable Connections is a small outfit and due to the natural high turnover in the business is always on the shit list.  Expect your work to come under more scrutiny and make sure all the nitpicky details are perfect like service loops, etc.  Also because they are small they are not in the 21st century with their invoicing.  The incompetent office staff will aggravate the piss out of you, if you expect a timely response to a billing discrepancy.

Some of the specs in the system are just plain gay.  Things like dedicated back feeds are not acceptable unless they are a dedicated cat 5.  Apparently cable installers and service techs are not as smart as telephone technicians who have been using multiple pairs for years.  Worse still they are only paid if the back feed is run to the exterior so qc can see it, which is just silly on these newer homes with panels.

Pay is not all that exciting either.  Dedicated HSD outlet prices have been gutted, boxes do not pay, no pay for wall fishes, etc.

So because of the above average sphincter factor in the system I would avoid it like the plague and go satellite or just go inhouse and get the hourly & benefits.  There are Direct TV (not anymore with Dish Network) contractors in central Florida where you can still pick up equipment once a week, get your jobs emailed daily, and turn in work orders once a week.  Depsite the lower pay becuase Mastec has Florida wrapped up you will still come out ahead with less aggravation and avoiding all of the bs every morning and the potential for someone trying to take money from you over a new spec change that occurred last week you were just told about today with a stack of groundwire qc's that need to be changed from 10 guage yellow to 10 guage pink.
