Yes, my father in law is. He talks about the same thing. He was in N Africa & Italy. Talks a lot about the smell. He's 92. And the other stuff too. I acquired a WW2 era trench gun, a short barrell pump 12ga. I thought he would like to see it, He freaked, told me we were going to get us all killed. He was serious, He told me later that if allies were captured by germans and had one in the unit they were all shot on the spot. He said throw that damn thing away. It must have put him back there for awhile.
