look at the companies that won't go under.  Walmart, microsoft, Intel, Mac, DirecTV.  Those type of companies won't go belly up.  You won't see like a huge return but you shouldn't loose your 10K either.  Just remember the Stock market is like Vegas, don't gamble more than you can afford to loose.  Always keep in mind that you could loose that 10K very easily.  But you could also see a nice return on your investment to.  Make sure you diversify.  Maybe 2K in each company I listed.  Keep an eye on the list of companies many people are predicting will fail this year like, Bestbuy, Sears, etc....  Don't invest in those.  thats my 2 cents
