No phone lines are "required" for any DTV boxes of which I am aware.
Rarely do any of my customers have landlines, I have it on my receipt "Your receivers were not connected to any landline phone system. You will be unable to access IPPV services such as pay per view ordering through your remote. If you'd like to order an event, please call DirecTV and pay a $5.00 ordering fee, or use Directv.com and order for free."
I also verbally tell them (as I show them interactive services) that DirecTV cannot use their viewing information when compiling the "what's hot" list.
Of course, if they WANT them, I'll be happy to connect them and install phone lines and jacks for a fee.
