The only place you'll ever hear the term 'Latino' is in the Americas. Latino is actually considered to be a cross between European Spaniard (native of Spain) and the original Latin American people. I once referred to a man from Spain as Latino and was promptly rebuked. Why, because to him the term is offensive.
All holidays should be considered American and not defined by race. And by the way, Columbus was WHITE and yes, Italian.
