Well red you answered the million dollar question yourself, o.j.t .. slap a pair of hooks on your man and make him climb every pole you are working and teach him yourself.
but of course that takes time & time is money, and if you are not willing to invest your time & rest of the crews money to train a newbie then leave him on the dumb end of the rope.
When I came up and started linework I probely climbed 100 sticks watching the lineman bug off and swap the lasher & dress the pole, then another 200 or so dressing the pole after the lasher was long gone, before he ever turned me loose in the bucket.
hell on starting points and eol he even made me hoist the lasher to strand & drop back to ground on eol's he had that nice strong ass bucket setting rite there for the ride up or down .. he said come on pup their ain't no buckets in easement, it will make a fuc*&nng lineman out of you.
