Heres an Idea.. Hang him on the lasher from a safety on a 1200' river crossing so he can reload the lasher mid-span He will get the idea of how a lasher works real fast, give him about 4 balls of wire & 2 pairs of 9's because you know he will drop at least 2 of them, and stand up wind from him when he makes the other side.
