 My point exactly.
Look at 1939 to 1970. Stayed pretty flat. We paid for WW II and Korea back to back. Still stayed pretty flat.
Look at 1970 to now.

Back out all the trade numbers that the politician like to baffle us with because they cannot dazzle us with their brilliance. Just look at the debt and the M3 money supply.

I agree with you that GW got into the checkbook. So did Clinton, So did Bush Sr., Reagan and Carter too. Power in both houses have flip-flopped back and forth. Look at the end result. O is one month in. Starting out with a bang and already preparing us for more. Who is going to pay? My Grandchildren? Your Grandchildren? Their Children? It needs to stop.   
The end result of a socialist is the same as a communist. The communist is just in a hurry and has a gun.
