Its not always the company at fault here on payment issues. I run a direct sales group and we pay bi-weekly on everything confirmed installed through the 2nd Saturday with pay on Tuesday evening at turn in. Checks are not direct deposited for a number of reasons that include getting the reps. to site each week, reps. floating checks without knowing amount they are getting, and mainly because we itemize for the rep. each and every confirmed completed work that matches their checks. If rep. does not show up and does a disappearing act then we send check to last known address.
Biggest problem we have is all the fly by night groups that come and underbid contracts where we are forced to then listen to the mso tell us that "so and so" will do it for this so if we want to stay in x area thats the best we can pay. Have always tried to maximise pay to the guys who actually do the work and amazed so many rip off artists are able to stay in business. Guess some of us old cable dogs must not be the 'brightest bulbs in the pack" or the shysters would have been smacked down long ago. Been in it since early Telecrafter days and think it long past time that quality contract groups exchange better info to prevent the underpayment history that has taken place recently. If the field guys aren't getting 80% of the contract then they should be raising hell!!! Way to many middlemen contract groups are scarfing 50% of more before it gets to the field guys. That is the real crime here.
