A "tier system" means that they pay you based on your experience and/or seniority.
One (satellite) example is as follows:
Level one (newbie): 55/15 (first receiver and dish = $55/ additional receiver $15)
Level two (less than one year): 65/15
Level three (between 1-2 years): 70/20
Level four (more than two years): 75/25
Level five (too old to be doing this sh!t): $50,000 a year to watch over the newbies, which requires 80 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, with NO vacation, until you've served your master for three years.
