Please also note that typically for a non compete clause to be effective, money has to exchange hands for the privaledge of the agreement. If no money was offered for this to be in effect, it typically holds no value by law. I learned this when I had a non compete agreement after selling a company, and since money was exchanged for this non compete agreement, it was enforceable.
