Start Over

The cable co. here has a feature called "start over" where subs using a dvr have the option of starting a broadcast from the beginning without having recorded it to the hard drive. It doesn't work very well, mind you, but I am curious as to how. It only works for certain shows on certain channels and doesn't seem to have a pattern to it. Is it something to do with virtual channels sharing the frequency of a broadcast you were watching previously?
