My past experience with the south central states was If you had duel wheels on anything that has a ladder rack on it had to cross the scales and was subject to dot inspections, when I worked in KCMO with a 1 ton bucket van I had to run Dot numbers but did not have to cross scales unless I was pulling a trailer.. I got several $250.00 fines for blowing the scales and not having lights & tags on the cable trailer.. no mention of log book.
now in Georgia.. it is anything over 28gvw needs numbers and scales ..
but again that was years ago.. best to check with dmv.. and it is always best to have a federal inspection sticker on your left side
a lot of Dot cops see's that and blows right on by.. I have seen some hillbilly bucket trucks running around Ga. with bin doors falling off and mufflers dragging working there and they get by.
