Anything with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs or more and used for any commercial purpose, and unless you are just using the bucket to water the hanging plants on your second story, it is required to have issued DOT numbers. If you typically are within a 50 mi radius of your home office you do not need to keep a log. You do however have to pass through all inspection check points.
You can play dumb once or twice but they will still nail ya.
