For those that think me unkind or backwards....and for those that are ok with me I have written a poem for Christmas. I had 4 brothers at Christmas so it was pretty cool. I wrote it a couple of years ago and amended it. I hope you like it. Marry Christmas
A Christmas Tale
I remember the Christmas’ I had as a child
The thoughts of Santa through my mind ran wild
It always started when we got the tree
This is another tale in itself you see
The winter days in Alaska weren’t always so bad
And we were happy to go out in the snow
To cut a tree with my brothers and Dad
It could take a while to find a good one you know
We would take it home before it got too dark
Dad would become doctor on branches and bark
Mom put the lights on followed by timeless ornaments
Then icicles of silver and a skirt for the presents
The gifts would fill the bottom as Christmas drew near
And the house would be decorated with holiday cheer
With IBM card wreaths painted red, green and gold
Christmas balls from the ceiling, some new and some old
Santa candles on the table and a musical tree
With Santa and reindeer circling round it with glee
We didn’t always have a fire place so Mom made one you know
She even sprayed window greetings made of fake snow
Santa Cookies and candy our mom would spend hours making
The fudge Granny would send put in the fridge for the taking
To open a present on Christmas Eve was tradition
But only one to be opened was the happy condition
Then “ Boys, you go to bed or Santa might not show”
To lay there and smile until into dreamland we would go
The anticipation we had might seem crazy to some
I always got up early to see of he had come
When to my surprise boy had he been there
Bicycles and wagons and toys everywhere
With stockings stuffed full of candy, fruit and small presents
Laid at the end of all Santa had left
The day had just started oh around six
But this was not the end of our picks
For, there were boys playing numbering five
Christmas together made us feel alive
Through the hours all five boys would play
Inside and outside we just loved the day
Then came the Christmas dinner that Mom would make
Turkey or ham in the oven would bake
Mom’s potatoes gravy and maybe green beans
Christmas lights still glowing and candles ablaze
That Christmas meal always had been
The family meal that we all would gaze
With friends and family some old and some new
Always so welcome, “Mom, they came to see you”
And as the years have passed
And Christmas’ have gone by
There’s a happy tear welcome in my eye
For me this was Christmas and it never would fail
I still have fond memories of my Christmas tale
