I agree with you. Knowing the basics is one thing. But about 80% of this job is an experiential thing. And it just takes time and experience to be able to trouble shoot and recognize whats going on, and quickly come up with a plan to knock it out.
Any fool can hook up a cable to a tap. Its getting into a house that has had 3 different dishes with 3 sets of lines and original RG 59 wiring all spliced to hell, 4 splitters in the attic and you gotta put 3 pieces of equipment on AFTER running a new RG 11 drop (287'). Did I mention that you have 2 more jobs in this time frame, and they are not going to be a picnic either...lol A seasoned tech would be able to handle that no prob. Me well it still takes a bit as lots of times ,just not sure what I am looking at. As my eyes tell me one thing and my levels tell me a completely different story all together...
