EVERY STATE IS DIFFERENT.......
But you can begin the collection process anytime....you should ask the court for legal fees (lawyers want 1/3 for their time). You should ask the court for the money owed plus interest....(whatever your state allows) And you should ask the court for judgment enforcement costs.
Find some assets.........keep copies of checks you receive and tag numbers of anyone from the contracting company..your customer.
Some of these dudes just pay when sued. They know they have your money and the law will make you go through a process to seize it from them.
Take your contract to a local lawyer. ..one that advertises for commercial collections.
Try to see what is going on with your money at the corporate office without dealing with any local managers.
Good luck,
Joe
