About three years before I got into the cable Biz I use to find the big spools and take them home. I would take the bolts off of the threaded rods that held them together. I would use the inside of the reel as the table top by itself. Where the wooden slats use to be that held the two round pieces of the reel together I would split wooden beads in half and lay in a Mosaic of different color Beads... Then I would pour an Epoxy finish over the whole top... Turned out REEL Awesome....Try this... Get a REEL rough one and burn it with your torch all over and then sand down the high spots and then put on a laquer finish.
