All Bama and Irish fans

I know prior to 1900, Ivy League schools dominated college football.
Question? Since 1901 which school has the most football National Championships? Historians have the Irish with 13 while Alabama owns 12.
Every Bama fan I talk to says their school has the most.
What gives??
