walk out is what it sounds like. your mapping out the plant of an existing system or a area ready to be built. You would be tasked to measure between poles and peds or transformers in an underground situation. You will need to transfer all pertinent info on a map for use in the desighn process. Used to pay well. I remember making 280 per mile at one time. I could do 3 miles a day and I enjoyed the work. I don't know of anyone doing any real walkout today.
