I lucked out and got to go to Alaska with my Air Natl Guard unit in 1985, it was awesome, just learning the business, we stuck 6 55 foot poles in the ground in a huge circle, ran strand from the top to a metal ring about 24 inches in the middle on the ground, with a coax fitting made on it, and had a uhf or vhf antennae, 1 problem we ran into was years ago it was the bottom of a lake, all small rock with hardly no dirt content, we had to dig our holes with a back hoe, and while climbing with hooks about halfway up got a lot of sway until we got the poles tied together. Got to take the weekend off, drove up to seward, watch the salmon fishing, saw whales swimming off the coast, some of them went to Palmer if i remember right, watched the lumberjack contests, it was awesome, and one of the better memorys and jobs.
