I agree, Nate. When I first started in the biz, all of the guys kept telling the trainer that he had a free crawler for the day. Of course, I didn't have a clue what that meant. That was, until we arrived at our first job.
I think that I crawled well over a mile that day, and I swore that I would never do that to someone that was trying to learn the ropes. Well, the trainer just laughed and said the best way to learn is from the ground up. He did actually teach me a lot in those few weeks, and I am a better tech for it.
If you can get classroom training before you go out, then by all means take it, but if you can't, hope like hell that you are with someone that knows what he's doing.
