Re: ride along

I consider map reading skills, road navigation, etc., to be part of the job. How can you assess someone's ability to read a map if they aren't in the same vehicle? How do you get a clear picture of whether they are a total liability in a vehicle. If they are following behind the trainer, how is he to know what level of attention the new hire is paying to the road? I've been in cars where the driver paid so little attention while driving it scared the hell out of me. I certainly wouldn't want to be the company man insuring the vehicle some of these guys are in the way they drive.
