Mike -
I hear you man and agree. Some managers need to be demoted sometimes. That wasn't the point of my rant though.
My point was this: If I hired you to perform step A-B-C-D-E-F, trained you properly to do A-thru-F in order, and I pay you to do step A-B-C-D-E-F, then shouldn't I expect you to do A-thru-F as instructed?
The situation in my rant is about "techs" who think putting step D before B is "better" somehow.
The Owner/Manager might understand what the tech is saying .... but then tells the tech "No... please do it in order as you were trained". Does it end there? nope.... Tech now continues to "Speak his mind" on the topic and gets into a pissing match. The boss want's the tech to stick to procedure while the tech wants to do it his own way because he thinks it's better.
Should the tech be suprised when he's fired for not performing his work as ordered?
Should the tech be suprised when no one wants to hire him because his reputation preceeds him?
Respect has nothing to do with job performance. Sad to say, but nowadays Money=Respect. I pay you to do a job. My repect is paid out to you in dollars each week. When you lose my respect, you lose your job. When you lose your repect for me, you lose your job.
If a tech has been "blackballed" in a system ..... His only options are to change Location or Vocation.
