Wondering about your experiences using RANGE FINDERS for strand mapping

I am looking to buy a range finder to help me out mapping those "difficult to measure" distances. There is such a huge range of quality and priceing out there I would like some input from you mappers with rang finder experiences. The range finder that I am seriously considering is the Leica DISTO Classic. It has a 100m range and is accurate within +/- 3mm. However for around $900 I can't help but wonder if one of the cheaper less accurate models would be a better choice. Please post replys or E-mail me at (-REDACTED-) . Thanks.
