Re: hydraulic fluid

No low Hydraulic fluid will cause a motor to overheat.. well.. depends..

1 if the governor has been bypassed and the pump is not running on it's bypass valve and is running wide open.. (no pump PSI Load) .. Like putting a car in neutral and holding it wide open..

Most Hydro motors (direct drive pumps) run around 1800 to 2100 rpm @ full load or 1800 PSI pump ..

you have a bypass valve on the hydro tree to bypass excess pressure.. thus it creates a load on the motor.. if the bypass is bad you will have low pressure but high GPM flow..

jerky erratic movement and due to a over rev of the motor.. yes it will overheat.. on air cooled motors..

you need to check your fluid level.. check your pressure..
1/8" fitting on the 1st block on your hydro tree.. It will have a tower (adjustable spring type thingy) that is your pressure bypass block.. get a 2500 psi x 1/8 " guage and check static pressure.. no load.. and full load pressure .. should be 1800 no load 1700 to 2000 psi while movement of any device.. motor should speed up whenever there is movement and settel back to normal rpm when no load

that is if the governor is operating right.

if you have no pump pressure it should not speed up..

need to know more ?????
