Technically it depends on the cable used cat 6 you can go 273 feet at 100megs a second and a gig a sec, cat 5 you can go 273 feet but it has to be high grade 350mhz. you may or may not get 100megs at 273 feet with cat 5 350, but you wont know that unless you only use 100meg negotiation.
If you are wondering how far you can put a cable modem from the pc connection, why not just go wireless . your max speed for internet cant be faster than 40 megs in most areas, so a 54 meg wireless connection would be just fine. Other than that 273 feet is the max, after that the rest may work but it is only promised by the manufacture to be 273 feet. So it can work past 300 feet but that is conditional on the noise level of the environment.
