Your right alot of MSOs do allow you to wear them. They have to be professional in appearance. The upside is they are nice in 90 -95 degree weather , the down side is I won't climb in them, but then again not to many climb nowadays. I have a pair that you can unzip the legs and there shorts, nice for those rare occasions when you do have to climb
