That was very enlightening figures. While we know what the problem is we need to identify a solution. If we go to the Fed website and examine the increase in the money supply,up until they stopped publishing such data, we would find that there is a direct correlation between the increase of the money supply and an increase in the inflation rate. This would lead to the conclusion that if the Fed would stop increasing the money supply we could very well gain a foothold on inflation but in order for that to happen congress would have to balance it's budget and stop borrowing money. which I don't see that happening, so the other alternative would be, which I think would be the best alternative, is to abolish the Fed. Of course congress would have to do that also, which is even less likely, or the people could start using a different type of currency.
As for higher gas prices, if you compare it to the price of gold or silver adjusted for inflation the price has not really gone up that much, sorta like people earn more than they did in the 70's but their actual purchasing power has declined. That is one of the intrinsic problems of inflation of how it distorts the true economic picture.
Right now the main reason gas prices are rising is, yes, due to speculators as many have suggested but the reason for the speculation, which most of the media outlets fail to mention, is to recoup losses acquired through the decline of the dollar. As the Fed continues to increase the money supply either through loaning the government more or bailing out banks and investment firms, the value will continue of the dollar will continue to fall and the corresponding prices and speculation will continue to rise.
As for the CEO pay I think we all know what that is contributive to.
To me capitalism exploits workers through the wage system, thereby enslaving a people, just as much as socialism. I think that is quite clear in the disparity in pay of the working class when compared to the ruling class.
I have many of your posts and you are quite astute in your recognition of what is truly happening and as you I believe if the problem is not corrected quite soon you prophecy may very well come true.
