Re: Are self-employed people exempt from OSHA

I guess all of the above, Rich. My interest was peaked after reading the mission statement of OSHA, which plainly states that self-employed are not governed by OSHA regulations. I guess I'm trying to figure out the differences between being self-employed and a subcontractor, according to OSHA. My only experience with OSHA was in the pre-harness safety belt days when a splicing sub I knew (I mean a one man self-employed subcontractor) got busted in Southern Delaware for not wearing his safety belt. If I remember right the contractor, Spectorcom, got a $800 fine and charged the guy who got busted. I'm just wondering if the fine was technically legit. Personally I always wear my harness, but often I think I do not want to be tied to my basket in case of an accident.
