gps for rural routes

is anyone using a tomtom for gps in rural routes? i've started running deep into rural areas and the tomtom is fine until it comes to the county roads and what not. there are regional maps, but befor i dropped the money for the extra maps i thought i'd ask if anyone else had tried it. if so was it worth the extra $$$.
