I agree, I have been in the fiber game since 1988 and I have yet to see anyone come out of any school who could be put in the field and splice on his/her own--schools are a good place to learn how fiber works and all that but does not do a whole a lot in the real world. Every customers as their own way of wanting things done there is over a dozen or so splice enclosures out there not to mention all the old ones still in place. Best thing you can do is find a company that does Fiber splicing and get on as a trainee you will find even if you spend money on a school it will be hard to find anyone willing to hire you to start for anymore then trainee pay anyway.
Good Luck there is starting to be more fiber work out there but there is also a lot of travel, most companies that have local long term work have splicers already in place. But there is still some good money to be made to be made but not like it was 6 years ago though.
