There is always a second side to each issue. I started in the industry in 1968 when state of the art technology was Starline-One single ended equipment and pressure taps. Since then, stop and consider the advances in technology. My Wife and I sat at the Cape and watched the very first communications satellite launch setting atop a Delta rocket. I purchased the second SA satellite dish sold to include a 28K LNA. Two-way active plant came along followed by and PPV. All this was followed by fiber overlays, DirecTV technology and Verizon's all optical network. If you stop and think about it, technology will continue to evolve which will require both in-house as well as contractual personnel to implement. In my humble opinion, the CATV Industry has lost the current battle with Verizon. As was the case a few years ago when all telephone companies found themselves non-competitive with the Cable Industry's high-bread COAX/Fiber technology, today Verizon as leveled the playing field and one-upped the industry by deploying an all optical network. Having said that, Cable is now faced with either matching technology or suffering the potential loss of subscribers to Verizon. I would guess that Cable will step up to the plate and therein lies the future work opportunities.
