Re: Tired of being ripped off by Connect/Directv?

If you're a contractor, then you should already have a contract in place between you and the company you are contracting with. Unions negotiate employment contracts, you should already have a written contract, so what can a union do for you?

Put a lien on every home you installed and didn't get paid for. Homeowners are responsible for ensuring anyone who works on their home gets paid. Think about it, no work can be done on a customer's home without their authorization. So since they authorized the work, they are responsible for paying for the work. I don't care what the homeowner's agreement was with DirecTV or DISH, or whomever promised the free install.

A lot of these bad companies can be gotten rid of if DirectV, DISH, cable companies, retailers, etc. all started to get complaints from customers and media attention for all the liens placed by unpaid subcontractors.

Trying to get a union organized industry-wide is damn near impossible. However, any one man can file a lien and solve their non-pay troubles and if enough do this on an individual basis the backlash would solve the problem industry-wide. All that is needed to change this industry is for people to stop accepting being ripped off.
