Fortunate to work in house with good benefits, but do contract on the side every now and then. I have yet to do a job where I got under $25 per burn. If all there was to do were twelve and twenty four count, and only one or two a day that is crappy money. However if you could keep busy on 144 or 216 count there is still money in it.
I purchased a used 40s, and a spare oven for $7500. Even as slow as I am can still do about 24 burns an hour after set up. My greatest purchase was a used van at auction, already set up for fiber splicing. 98 ford with a Pelsue system $9000. I then equiped it with a manhole set up for an extra $100. It has already paid for itself.
