A lot of the old modem devices like faxes and alarm panels and whatever else there is hanging on a pbx will have a devil of a time going to voip. It just aint the same. I think a lot of it is the dead air the voip cuts out, instead of a switched line that leaves the circuit open. The modems keep hanging up because the think they've lost the line.
We do a lot of banks and their networks/phones are rock-solid. They've 75% switched to ip phones, but still keep their fax on a copper line.
