DIRECTV & Phone Lines = CA$H in Their Pockets

The following story is one of the main reasons DTV insists on having phone lines connected. Of course they make a lot of money on the PPV's, but they also make major cash by selling their subscribers' viewing habits to advertisers.

This is from today's SkyReport e-newsletter:

TNS/DIRECTV Measurement Service Gains Starcom
TNS Media Research said Starcom USA has signed an agreement with the company to utilize the DIRECTView service.

Announced by the satellite TV service and TNS in January, DIRECTView is a national audience measurement service that aims to better understand the viewing habits of digital consumers. Through the partnership, TNS processes DIRECTV's set-top box data and allows for next-day analysis of programming patterns.

The analysis is done through InfoSys, a media analysis and planning system that will provide Starcom with direct access to detailed data and in-depth information of national viewing patterns.

Starcom first entered into an agreement with TNS in November 2006 in a deal to analyze set-top-box data from 320,000 Charter Communications' digital subscribers in the Los Angeles market.

Starcom is a media division of Starcom MediaVest Group, a media communications agency that encompasses an integrated network of highly specialized consumer contact companies.
