One thing you all are forgetting, You could always go buy your own truck, your own tools, your own insurance and still pay for your own gas,and repairs. Then sub contract and see which way you make more money? Take it from someone who has done it both ways---the little bit extra a sub makes over a contract installer does not make up for all the extra costs in the end and don't forget medical insurance as well as work comp and liability.
We all should look at the big picture--there is alot of guys out trying to make it as subs and if you follow the posts on here a lot of them are having a hard time getting paid at all I am sure if you ask some out $1000's they would be more then happy to pay for gas if they got a check every week.
