Re: Railroad wreck-out

Back in late 70's I once bid and got the job of removal of railroad western union plant, They just wanted the plant removed and sold it for $1:00 per mile from Kansas down into Ok. We had to remove all the wire, alot of steel not copper. remove the multiple insulators and x-arms, pull the poles and some were not road accessible, was not allowed on the track, used mules, had to have signal man with us, get off ROW when train coming.
Our problem was where to store all this, then we had to sell the poles and x arms and wire. WAS NOT WORTH THE EFFORT we had to put into the job. Made more off poles selling to farmers and more off the insulators-people thinking they were getting something. Even if you get an old insulator-it's only worth $12-$25 not many good ones around.
