Re: whats the best way to file lien against a comp

It is different in each state BUT:
You can sue them in the state where the work was done......to state where you live....or....some contracts say which state you have to sue them in.

You want to use the term "jointly and severally" to get a judgment against the corporation and the operators who have your money.

Ask for at least a third of what is owed as a collection fee.Lawyers want a third.

You should send a registered letter to the address where they do business demanding payment within a certain short period.

Save any checks...copy them before depositing them....you may want to put a lien on that bank account.

Go to the court house where you plan to sue them and ask at the clerk's office for information. Each state is different. You can save yourself a little time ond or money taking the first steps but start shopping for a lawyer,

Read your contract with the firm. If no contract...write out your understanding of the agreement to exchange labor and services for money.

Good luck,

Joe
