My dad started trucking in 1977, he just sold his last truck and swears he'll never buy another. On top of the high fuel cost is the added security at many high profile plants, and other so called high-terrorist targets. He said that because these added security waits (sometimes 8-10 hours) were mandated by the feds he does not get paid for the down time.
Any way on the flip side if every trucker parked for a month, mexican truckers in 1960's macks would be driving accross the boarder and driving without any safetly regs for $50/day.
