You obviously know nothing about lightning or High voltage. Lightning is somewhere in the range of 100,000V plus. It is in search of the shortest path to ground. Ground cables are supposed to have very thick insulation however in our industry we use wire with insulation too thin to stop Extreme High voltage from also flowing and sparking. A proper ground is no more than 4 ft long and head straight down. Yours
takes a bend and is how long? It is also going right next the gas line.
The lightning will jump right out of the wire and find the least resistance to ground. Which may be a metal pipe near your ground wire.
