If you notice the symbol "Z" starts out as a line being drawn forward till it hits a "brick wall"(impedance), so to speak, and is deflected down and backwards till it regains strength to again move forward! I have absolutely no idea why "Z" is used to indicate "impedence"! Later, Mike M.
