I agree with Vegas' comments below.
Those who make piece usually work the smartest (and sometimes fastest). Those who are paid hourly tend to move slower (who wouldn't), and that's why you'll find such big discrepancies in hourly wages. I offer healthcare to my employees as well as other benefits, but I'm pretty picky about who I hire. I can't afford to hire anybody off the street - don't have the time or energy to train someone just to watch them make a big mess or hurt themself or someone else....I've seen guys who have supposedly been in their type of work for more than 10 years and they do sloppy work or no work at all and still expect to be paid. How people like that managed to stay in this business is beyond me but that is one example of why you won't ever see a national standard of pay.....
