Also, the cost of living is a factor as well. Someone living in NYC should make more to enjoy the same standard of living as someone who lives where real estate is still affordable such as in the Plains states. So any national "standard" would have to include market variables such as cost of living in individual markets in order to equalize things.



Personally, I feel that people make exactly what they're worth. The only exception being those who make minimum wage but are worth even less than that. People who don't move on when they feel they deserve more essentially set the cap on the value of the services they provide.
