Man, that brought back memories! I did that very trip in August 1980, after mapping some original MultiVisions cable in Anch. Got some Ferry tix from staff in Anch., and drove my Alaskan-purchased '72 Blazer ("Yukon Junk") over to Haines, boat to Prince Rupert, then Yellowhead (16) across. Took over two weeks...too much fishing, camping, too many parks on that trip. Definitely the best commute I've had!!! Within 5 months, I was walking out plant on South Padre. Those obviously were the days!
Let's say you want to build a BIG house, but you don't think you'll need a foundation..........
