Re: Comcast Contractor Killed While Trying to Retr

A Pittsburgh-area man died Monday after he was struck by his cable construction crew's truck while the men were doing installation work on East State Road in Cranberry Township.

Franklin state police trooper Scott Mohnkern said William Graham Jr., 37, of Tarentum, died at the scene after he jumped from the back of the bucket truck to retrieve his hard hat, which he had dropped. The incident occurred at about 11:40 a.m. on East State near Allison Road, Mohnkern said.

Graham had directed the driver, Daniel Cernuska, 48, of Perryopolis, to back the truck up so he could recover his hat, Mohnkern said. Graham leaped off the truck as it was in reverse and was struck by the rear passenger-side dual tires, Mohnkern said.

Venango County Coroner John Greggs pronounced Graham dead at 12:29 p.m. Greggs said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest, stomach and pelvis regions.

The truck's other two passengers, Frank Brosius, 40, of Templeton, and Clayton Fertig, 40, of Tarentum, scrambled to save Graham, Mohnkern said. Brosius jumped off the truck and collided with Fertig, who was already on the ground assisting Graham, Mohnkern said.

Brosius received severe injuries to his left leg, Mohnkern said.

The four men were working for Duda Cable Construction of Leechburg, which had been sub-contracted by Comcast Cable to install cable on East State Road.

Mohnkern said the investigation is continuing.
