Perceptions - Interesting topic. What changed my perception was when the bussing started back in the '70's. I was bussed to an almost all black school. 94% black if my old memory serves me correctly. It was Federal bussing only as the States had not yet followed. All of the white students were from the military base and the Orphan's home. Almost all of the blacks were from the projects.
Only got into one fight towards the end of the year. I didn't want to hit the little guy and did not have to! He was really fast and it was all I could do to just to stop his blows and protect myself. My Black brothers stepped in and contained him as they saw that I did not want to hurt him. I never even knew what started the fight.
I did stab a black girl the second day of the start of the year however as she did not give me a choice. I did it with a fork in the cafeteria. She outweighed me by about 50lb.s.
It is all about perceptions and choices.
